The short answer
Choose Ladbrokes for the acca insurance and an Android app, or Coral for an iPhone app and the Coral Racing Club. Coral has one sister site that we review, Ladbrokes, and LC International Limited, part of the Entain Group, runs both bookmakers. The biggest difference is betting features: Ladbrokes adds acca insurance, which lifts its rating to 4.5 against Coral's 4.4. Both welcome offers are worth £30 in free bets, with no wagering requirement. Coral's account rules also stop you opening a second account across brands that share the licence, so you will pick one of the two.
Rating 4.5 out of 5
Ladbrokes is the sister we review: same company and licence. Both bookmakers name LC International Limited as operator and belong to the Entain Group. Coral's account rules also name bwin, PartyPoker and Sportingbet as brands under the same licence, and this page reviews Ladbrokes only.
Both bookmakers accept UK players, show an active licence on the Gambling Commission register and attach no wagering requirement to their free bets.
| Bookmaker | Sister kind | Rating | Welcome offer | Wagering | Minimum deposit | Licence | Accepts UK players |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reviewed bookmaker | 4.4 out of 5 | Bet £5, get £30 in free bets | 0x | £5 | Gambling Commission, active | Yes | |
| same company and licence | 4.5 out of 5 | Bet £5, get £30 in free bets | 0x | £5 | Gambling Commission, active | Yes |
Coral and Ladbrokes share an operator, so some rules follow you from one to the other and others stay with the brand. The rules that matter most cover accounts, shared checks and loyalty schemes.
Coral allows one account per brand and, under current regulations, permits no new accounts across its brands operating under the same licence. If you already hold an account with one of them, you cannot create another with the others, so a second account at a sister is not a route to a second welcome offer.
Verification information is the second link: details you send for identity checks may be shared with other Entain Group companies where you hold accounts with any of its other UK brands.
Offers and loyalty schemes are run brand by brand: Coral Rewards at Coral and LadBucks at Ladbrokes, with free bet terms that differ in the details covered in the Ladbrokes review.
Both bookmakers offer the same safer gambling tools: deposit limits, a max stake limit, curfew, reality checks, play breaks, time out, account closure and self-exclusion. Set the ones you need at the bookmaker where you play.
If you are self-excluded or thinking about it, use Gamstop first: once you register with Gamstop Online you are blocked from gambling websites and apps licensed in Great Britain.
Coral's terms ask you to confirm that "you have not excluded yourself (whether directly via us or another Entain Brand or via a multi-operator service such as GAMSTOP and/or similar services)", and that no Entain Group operator has excluded you from gambling on any website or app. A sister site is never a way around a self-exclusion.
Coral's rating is 4.4 out of 5: account safety, limits and markets earn 5, while racing value, the welcome offer, betting features, support and mobile earn 4.
New customers stake £5 at odds of 1/2 or longer within 14 days of joining, and Coral credits six £5 free bets that expire after 7 days. A free bet's stake is not returned with winnings, no wagering requirement applies, and each free bet must be used in full in a single bet. Deposits with Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards do not count towards the offer.
Payment options include cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, paysafecard, Pay by Bank and bank transfer, and Coral does not charge for deposits. The Live Casino Lounge streams Playtech tables, and jackpot titles include Jackpot King, Mega Moolah and WowPot. Coral Rewards is the loyalty scheme, support runs through chat, email and telephone, and the iPhone app is on the App Store.
You must be over 18 to hold an account. If an account goes inactive and the balance cannot be returned to you, a monthly administration fee of £3.00 applies.
1. Prepare for identity verification that covers your date of birth, address and location, plus the origin of the money you deposit.
2. Keep one of these ready as identity proof: a passport, a driving licence, a national identity card (if you are not a UK citizen) or any valid UK government identity document.
3. Send a utility bill, a bank statement or another government document when Coral asks for proof of address.
4. Withdraw to a debit card or a bank account, which Coral does not charge for. Transfers to international accounts attract bank charges that you pay.
5. Plan around withdrawal times of instantly up to five banking days, set by the payment method you choose.
Ladbrokes is the same company and licence as Coral and scores 4.5 against Coral's 4.4. The gap comes from betting features, where Ladbrokes scores 5 to Coral's 4; every other area scores the same.
The free bet offer matches Coral's in size and wagering, with qualifying bets that cannot be cashed out. Deposits through Apple Pay and Moneybookers also fail to qualify at Ladbrokes, where Coral names certain debit cards instead. The free bets cannot be used on eSoccer, greyhounds, virtual sports, Tote or Pools.
Acca Insurance is the extra behind Ladbrokes' higher feature score: it carries minimum odds of 1/10, a maximum reward of £10 and a 7 day expiry. Ladbrokes also offers 2Up & Win early payouts, and its Bet Builder+ combines football, horse racing and tennis.
Winnings Boost covers pre-match and in-play Bet Builder bets with three or more selections at combined odds of at least 2/1 and a £20 maximum stake. Top Price Guaranteed runs daily for up to 3 hours on selected UK and Irish racing.
Ladbrokes dates its origins to 1886, forty years before Coral was established in 1926.
The casino lobby has live roulette with limits from £0.1 to £1,800 and jackpots called Rapid Fire, Jackpot King and Age of the Gods, plus Instant Spins once a day and daily slot and live leaderboard contests. LadBucks is the loyalty scheme: players earn between 5 and 5,000 LadBucks by joining promotions and redeem them in the LadBucks Store.
1. Keep a passport, a driver’s licence or a national ID ready for identity checks.
2. Read the withdrawal timeframe shown underneath your payment method on the withdrawal screen, then find it again in your Payment History.
Ladbrokes suits you if betting features such as acca insurance matter most, or if you use an Android phone.
| Bookmaker | Welcome free bets | Highest maximum payout | Sports listed | Support | Mobile app | Loyalty scheme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 x £5: 4 on any sports market, 1 on a football bet builder market, 1 on a horse racing bet builder market | £1,000,000 | 34 | Chat, email, telephone | App Store | Coral Rewards | |
| 6 x £5: 4 on any sports market, 1 on a football bet builder market, 1 on a horse racing bet builder market | £1,000,000 | 33 | Chat, email, telephone | Google Play | LadBucks |
Bonuses are level: both bookmakers pay the free bets in the same split, with no wagering requirement, so the offer will not decide between them.
Payments use the same list of methods at both, and the highest maximum payout is £1,000,000 at each. Coral lists 34 sports and Ladbrokes 33, both with in-play betting.
Both run Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish horse racing from 8am on the day of the event once you opt in, and on greyhound racing; Ladbrokes caps its greyhound offer at £2.5k per customer per day.
Games differ in presentation: Coral names Playtech for its Live Casino Lounge, while Ladbrokes runs a live dealer lobby with roulette, blackjack, poker and game shows.
Support is chat, email and telephone at both.
Mobile is where they split: Coral's app is on the App Store and Ladbrokes' app is on Google Play, so your phone may decide it for you.
Our ratings label Coral best for account safety and Ladbrokes best for betting features.
Choose Ladbrokes if you want acca insurance, a Bet Builder+ that spans football, horse racing and tennis, or the LadBucks scheme. Choose Coral if you value the Coral Racing Club and Coral Rewards. Pick by phone as well: an iPhone user finds Coral's app on the App Store, an Android user finds Ladbrokes' app on Google Play.
Whichever you choose, the account rule keeps you to one brand on the licence, so decide before you register.
Other sites place more brands near Coral. betting.co.uk (2026) names BetMGM Casino among 'sites like Coral', and bettinglounge.co.uk (2026) lists Foxy, Gala and Party Casino beside Ladbrokes as Coral's sister sites. We treat all four as alternatives to Coral outside its group: they stay off the sister list until a bookmaker's own operator details name LC International Limited. Check the operator before you count any of them as a sister.
betting.co.uk (2026) says Coral's sister platforms 'fall under the management of the global gaming giant Entain' and names Ladbrokes, bwin and Sportingbet among them, which fits Coral's own group line.
bettinglounge.co.uk (2026) says 'Both sites share the same design' and that 'the odds will almost always be the same', but that the bookmakers 'do not have the same promotions for existing customers'.
On offer size, betting.co.uk (2026) differs from the bookmakers' own offer terms: it gives Ladbrokes 'the highly accessible £20 in free bets from a £5 qualifying stake', while the offer terms at both bookmakers pay six £5 free bets, £30 in all.
en.wikipedia.org (2026) records that Ladbrokes acquired Gala Coral in November 2016 and that 'Coral and Ladbrokes shops continued to operate under their respective names'.
1. Contact customer services by chat, email or telephone and describe the problem; an advisor replies.
2. If the problem is not resolved, ask for it to be passed to the advisor's team or line manager, who reviews it and gives a decision.
3. If you are still dissatisfied, email complaints@coral.co.uk (complaints@ladbrokes.com for Ladbrokes); the enquiry is logged as a complaint, or as a dispute when it concerns a betting or gaming transaction.
4. If the answer does not settle it, take the complaint to an ADR provider after 8 weeks, a free and independent service that the bookmaker names. Coral and Ladbrokes both name IBAS.
Our take
Rating 4.4
Coral and Ladbrokes are close enough that the extras decide it. Ladbrokes earns its 4.5 on betting features, with acca insurance and a Bet Builder+ spanning football, horse racing and tennis; Coral holds 4.4 with the same free bets, the same payout ceiling and the same support channels. Both hold an active licence on the Gambling Commission register and share one complaints route that ends at IBAS. Whichever you open, set a deposit limit first.
Ownership is the settled point: Coral's own terms name LC International Limited, and betting.co.uk (2026) puts the family under Entain. What the sources dispute is how many brands count, so we weigh the operator details over any brand count. On that basis the choice between Coral and Ladbrokes is about features, not terms.

Set your limits before you play and use self-exclusion if you need a break. A sister site is never a way around a self-exclusion.
Ladbrokes is the sister reviewed here, classed as same company and licence. Other brands that sites place near Coral are covered in the alternatives section, with the reason each is kept off the sister list.
LC International Limited, a company registered in Gibraltar, operates Coral, which is part of the Entain Group. Ladbrokes, the sister reviewed here, runs under the same operator.
Yes. Both bookmakers sit under one Gambling Commission licence, and the register lists it as active. Both also name the same parent, Entain Group. Coral's rule against a new account at another brand applies across that licence.
No. While you hold an account at one brand on the licence, you cannot open another at a sister. You can close an account at any time through its settings, or by chat, email or telephone.
Not on its own. Tell each Entain brand where you hold an account that you want to be excluded, and see the Gamstop paragraph in What carries over between Coral and its sisters above.
Neither has the edge: both free bets carry no wagering requirement and both start with a £5 qualifying bet, so the cost of starting is identical.
It depends on the payment method at both bookmakers. See Coral review for UK players above for the range.
Coral's promotions for existing customers include Price Boosts every day, Odds Boosters, Extra Place Races, Best Odds Guaranteed for UK and Irish racing and the Coral Racing Club. The free bets belong to new customers: bet £5, get £30.
