How we find bookmaker sister sites for UK players
What we check first
We start with the same three checks on every one of the bookmakers we review: which company operates it, which Gambling Commission licence account that company holds, and whether it accepts UK players.
Our team tests the bookmakers and checks every fact before a page is published. Maeve O'Sullivan, our lead author, writes the bookmaker sister-site pages.
Who runs each bookmaker
The operator line is read from each bookmaker's general terms and conditions, where the company that runs the site names itself. Ladbrokes and Coral, for example, both name LC International Limited.
The licence
Each bookmaker's terms and conditions name the Gambling Commission licence it operates under and say whether UK players can use it. We check that licence against the Gambling Commission public register, which shows who holds it and whether it is active. The holder on the register has to match the operator we name.
A shared licence on its own does not make two bookmakers sisters; the operator does. Where sisters also hold the same licence, we say so as a separate fact.
How we rate the bookmakers
The betting rating weighs the criteria below, and the weights add up to 100. Racing value counts for 20, the welcome free bet for 15, betting features for 15 and account and safety for 15. Limits, markets and support count for 10 each, and mobile for 5. Payment speed is shown on the page but is not scored.
Racing value looks at best odds guaranteed and extra places. The welcome free bet looks at the offer and how long the free bet lasts. Betting features cover cash out, bet builders, live streaming and the promotions on offer. Account and safety covers licence status, safer gambling tools, the complaints route and the verification terms. Limits look at maximum payouts, markets at the range of markets and in-play betting, support at the contact channels and mobile at the Android app.
When a page was last updated
Each page shows one date, in its Last updated line: the day the page was last changed. Before a page changes, we check the Gambling Commission public register again, so the operator and licence details on it are current on that day.
If you think we are wrong
If a fact on a page looks wrong, email info@sisterbookies.co.uk with the page and the sentence you mean. We go back to the bookmaker's own page, check it again and correct ours if it differs.
The corrected page then carries a new date.
